The Original Volkswagen Scirocco Storm Mk2 - Great Retro Look Sports Coupe URGENT in Tattenhoe, Buckinghamshire for sale

Cars

The Original Volkswagen Scirocco Storm Mk2 - Great Retro Look Sports Coupe I’ve loved and owned this car for 14 years, slowly restoring its original Storm looks. During this time I’ve enjoyed driving it on a strictly limited mileage classic car policy, so it’s still only done 26kmiles in the past 14 years. But here’s what sets it apart from just any Scirocco, or any Scirocco Storm. A Special History This was the original Scirocco Storm press vehicle along with reg A927 PNV (no longer thought to be on the road unless it has a different number plate). It appeared in the following publications: - Autocar 11th August 1984 - What Car? October 1984 - The excellent “VW Power and Style” book by Ian Kuah (on page 117). As you can see from the pictures, it looks great. Here’s the technical data for it, with some cool enhancements, the best of which is the standard but gutsy 1.8 16v KR engine! BioTech Data - Registration: A745 XVV - First registration 25th June 1984 at VAG Limited, Blakelands, Milton Keynes, UK - Colour Cosmos Blue (LK5Y) - Mileage 140000 – current speedo reads 138800miles - MOT to Sept 2015 with 22 MOTs from 1990 - Road Tax to Oct 2014 with 14 discs from 1999 - Gearbox type 5-speed close ratio sports 16v gearbox with Quaife LSD and overdrive 5th for comfortable cruising (returns 45mpg when taking it easy on motorway – tested!) Revs at 70mph reduce from 3379rpm - 2696rpm. - Short shift gears for sportier feel. - Exhaust Full custom made stainless steel exhaust with lifetime guarantee from Long Life Exhausts - Original Montreal Wheels 14”x 6J with 185/60 HR 14 - Brakes Uprated front brakes to 239mm discs as on 16v with Goodrich braided hoses - Suspension TSR Comfort springs lowered 25mm matched to Boge TurboGas shocks. Gives the car greater handling stability, without rattling your teeth. - Instruments Replaced original speedo that read to 120mph with another that reads upto 160mph. Loses econometer but gains newer dash which is a direct replacement without limiting speed reading (comfortably gets past 120mph where allowed). Still have the original. - First registration record and Original VW Manual - Original Service Schedule with 12 stamps up to 84000miles - Fully serviced from 114000 – present (140000miles) by myself and Anglo Continental Cars (owner is a friend and enthusiast with lots of experience with Sciroccos). - Receipts £500+ of receipts before my ownership - £3500+ of receipts during my ownership (since May 2000) - Central Locking Added a VW system that works on both doors and hatch but not on fuel cap. - Electric windows Not many had this luxury in the early 80’s, but this came with them as std - Bee sting aerial This was added as fittings were already available - Tilt and slide sunroof This works really well, the mechanism of which was replaced and has been well greased. All 4 drain channels have been checked and are AOK. - Full Leather Interior - Original deep pile carpets still in great condition After 30 years on the road, the Scirocco has proved to be an enduring car, built to last. It’s given me tremendous enjoyment. Driven weekly if not daily over the past few years, it remains a practical regular use car, occasionally taken on a long journey to find scenic, twisting routes to enjoy its sporting prowess, turning heads regularly and occasionally being followed and engaged by admiring enthusiasts – indicating how exclusive this retro-coupe has become. Although this original Storm has been the subject of some modifications, it has remained true to being a Scirocco Storm with the added punch of its stable mate’s 16v engine. But it’s always work-in-progress taking me away from the time my growing family deserve of me. And she deserves more time than I can give to fully restore her to her prime. Although 600 Mark 1 and a similar number of Mark 2 Storms were produced, only 30 or so are registered on the road in UK. That’s incredibly exclusive! Let’s cover all the assurances of what is good with the car: - Engine – great – starts, runs and revs beautifully. Timing belt changed less than 10000miles ago. - Transmission – all good – solid gear changes with virtually no play as I’ve recently installed a full gear linkages repair kit. No noise from drive shafts or CV joints. New clutch installed less than 5000 miles ago. - Body – really good condition – especially for year. Couple of small rust spots detailed in next section. Doors hang well, there’s no “drop” which I’ve seen on some Sciroccos. - All glass – original glass all round which is etched with the number plate A745 XVV. - Full leather interior - all in good condition - no rips in seats and bolsters still intact - plus both front seats tilt using the lever (these are often broken and a tedious to repair) - Full MOT - putting it through this week so you won't have anything to worry about (otherwise would have been due soon). So what is specific work in progress and could be done to improve the car? Things that may need attention (there are always things to improve) Trip Computer All functions work on this except the MPG and Avg Speed. This is a vacuum hose issue - easy to resolve if you want. Otherwise outside temp, trip time, oil temp, etc all work. What it would be nice to do. Body There was a scratch on the bonnet and n/s wing when I bought the car which needed some cosmetic work to remove which involved a respray of the bonnet, tops of wings and blended at the tops of the doors. The rest of the car has original paint which has looks a little faded on the roof. There are 2 rust spots – one, by the glass on the passenger door, has been on the car since I’ve owned it and only got slightly worse. The little ding on the back was done by, I suspect, the tow bar of a SUV in Morrison’s car park – but person didn’t own up to it. Repairing these 2 spots by themselves is uneconomical (circa £200) as the car deserves one complete respray during which these small jobs and other superficial scratches and surface imperfections can be dealt with. Radio If only I could get my hands on one at a sensible price, an original Blaupunkt Melbourne would look nice, but let’s not underestimate the benefits of modern radios with their memory cards and other digital capabilities (like RDS). It currently has a nice Ford RDS 6000. The original speakers are still in place with 2 Pioneer speakers fitted to the parcel shelf that deliver a much better sound. Ideally a parcel shelf without speakers and better original style speakers would be better. New Decals (included in sale) The car has the original badges including “Storm” in the front grill and “Storm 16v” at the back, but the “Volkswagen” and “Scirocco” stickers have begun to peel away (ironically due to regular cleaning!). I have a new set of decals ready to go on which are included in the sale for the new owner to apply (perhaps after some touch ups). Squeaks Can’t say the car’s squeakless so it would be nice to work with someone (one drives the other pinpoints) all sources to eliminate squeaks. Miscellaneous Driver’s seat The bolster on the original driver’s seat is pretty worn and torn. However I’ve replaced it with another seat which is in much better condition and not torn. The rest of the seats are all OK. What’s included in the sale apart from the complete car - All documentation, of course (receipts, MOT records, previous tax discs, service schedule etc) - A very good condition “VW Power and Style” book by Ian Kuah which has a photo of this Scirocco. - Original 1984 Autocar and What Car? magazines which feature THIS CAR. I have a load of spares for the car which I’ll be happy to give to the new owner. Conclusion So there you have it. I’ve finally done it and provided all the details I can think of for this sale. It is no doubt a unique opportunity and if circumstances were different for me I wouldn’t be selling the car. But I’m willing to make a clean break so another Scirocco enthusiast can take this car, continue to improve it and make it their own. The car is officially valued at for more than the asking price. My family needs a family car so this "weekend car" needs to pass on to another enthusiast's ownership. No doubt you’ll have lots of questions so feel free to ask.
